RIYADH: The supreme supervisory committee of the International Conference on the Phenomenon of Takfir holds a preparatory meeting today. The conference will discuss the phenomenon, the reasons for its occurrence and its impact on individuals and the nation. It will generate suggestions to tackle it and propose ways to protect individuals and society. Takfir is the practice of declaring that an individual or a group previously considered Muslims are non-believers. Saeed Al-Orabi Al-Harithi, adviser to Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, said the conference committees' preparations are progressing in accordance with the directives of Prince Naif. He said the event is being organized by Naif Bin Abdul Aziz Award for Contemporary Prophet's Sunnah and Islamic Studies, in cooperation with Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University. It will be held for three days and will discuss nine topics pertaining to Takfir. The supervisory committee comprises Sulaiman Abalkhail Director of the Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University; Abdul Wahhab Abu Sulaiman, member of the Board of Senior Ulema; Muhammad Al-Uqla, Director of Madina's Islamic University; Abdullah Al-Othman, Director of King Saud University; Abdullah Al-Khalaf, Deputy Director Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University for Higher Education and Scientific Research; and Misfer Bin Abdullah Al-Bishr, Executive Director of the Naif Award.
