Qahtani, Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR), has said that the return of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to the Kingdom has given the people “great hope that he will continue the building process he started at the beginning of his era”. “King Abdullah has overwhelming popularity not only in this country but in the whole world because of his humane character, love of justice, and work to establish dialogue,” Al-Qahtani said. “Observers of the situation of human rights in the Kingdom will undoubtedly see King Abdullah's resolve to promote the rights of the individual and protect individuals' freedoms, for both citizens and expatriates alike.” That was backed up, Al-Qahtani said, by King Abdullah's “continuous instructions” to government authorities to ensure that individuals' rights are protected. “He has issued warnings against violations of these rights and said that any official found at fault will be taken to task, whatever his post,” he said. King Abdullah's support for human rights bodies is evident, Al-Qahtani added, in the independent work of the NSHR. “The NSHR draws up its own policy, and all the government authorities have been asked to facilitate its work,” he said.
