RIYADH: The Kingdom and France Tuesday signed a bilateral cooperation agreement for the development of nuclear power for peaceful purposes in accordance with international treaties governing safety and non-proliferation. The agreement will allow organizations in both countries to strengthen their cooperation in knowledge-exchange and in the production and peaceful use of nuclear energy. Hashim Yamani, President of the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE), said the agreement was part of the Kingdom's resolve to pursue alternative energy sources such as atomic, solar, and wind and hydropower to meet the increasing demand for energy in the country. “The agreement will give Saudi experts the opportunity to study French technical options and their financial requirements, as well as needs in terms of qualified human resources,” Yamani said.
