RIYADH: On the orders from Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, the Higher Supervisory Committee for the International Conference on the Phenomenon of Takfir – Causes and Effects, will meet Sunday in Riyadh to discuss a number of subjects on the agenda. Members will look into research presented in final form and distribute it according to the conference topics, discuss the final vision of the accompanying exhibition and choose personalities to be invited to attend from abroad, officials said. The committee is also set to review preparations for the event, which is being organized by the Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz International Prize for the Prophet's Sunnah and Contemporary Islamic Studies, with participation by Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University. Dr. Sa'ed Al-Orabi Al-Harthi, adviser to the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior and chairman of the Higher Supervisory Committee, said subjects to be discussed include selection of participants, formation of committees, specifying subjects and topics to be discussed in the sessions to realize its sublime goals. These include highlighting the Shariah ruling on the subject of Takfir, the practice of declaring that an individual or a group previously considered Muslims are in fact non-believers in God; explaining the ideological and historical roots of this phenomenon; looking into its causes; highlighting its dangers and effects on the individual and the Ummah; and presenting suitable solutions for dealing with it, he said. Expected participants include a distinctive elite of officials, Ulema, academics, thinkers, educators and journalists from different countries of the Muslim world, he added.
