THESSALONIKI, Greece: Aris held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw in the last 32 of the Europa League Tuesday, allowing the Greek team to maintain a 40-year unbeaten European home record. Man City played Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli and David Silva, an attacking lineup that cost more than $150 million combined. Dzeko came closest when his second-half header was tipped over by goalkeeper Michalis Sifakis. City, which hasn't won a major title since the 1976 League Cup, hosts Aris in the second leg on Feb. 24. The other 15 first-leg matches are Thursday. Chelsea title hopes fade Chelsea was held to a goalless draw at Fulham Monday and a disappointing night for the Premier League champion would have been even worse but for a stoppage-time penalty save by goalkeeper Petr Cech. Chelsea, beaten at home by Liverpool last time out, had more than 20 attempts on goal but only four were on target as $80.10 million striker Fernando Torres again lacked sharpness. The result left Chelsea on 45 points, 12 behind leader Manchester United with 12 matches remaining this season and two adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester United is four points ahead of Arsenal with Manchester City third on 49. Chelsea still has to play United home and away but its chances of retaining the title look desperately slim. “For the title this point is too little – we are quite far behind,” Cech told Sky Sports. “In the final third we missed a little bit and we were chasing the game at the end. It was up and down stuff so in the end, with the penalty, we are happy to get the point.” Fulham had won its last five home league and cup games in a row but its record against Chelsea is dire with only one win against its neighbor since the 1970s. It matched its big-money rival for much of the game, however, and although Chelsea upped the tempo after the break it rarely troubled Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer. Dider Drogba replaced Torres for the last 20 minutes and though he looked lively he was unable to change things.
