MADINA: The family of a “physically assaulted wife” has filed a complaint with the National Society for Human Rights and said police were negligent in following up on the woman's case, Dr. Muhammad Bin Salim Al-Owfi, Director of the Society's branch in Madina Region, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette. The Society asked to meet the woman, who is accusing her husband of beating her and puncturing her left ear. A female representative has started preparing a report on the case, on the basis of the complaint the woman's brother lodged, Al-Owfi said. A medical report on her condition has been included in the dossier, completion of which is pending the preparation of required documents and meeting the woman, he added. The Society will write to the relevant authorities after verifying the case and establishing its opinion, Al-Owfi said. The woman's brother stuck to his accusation that Madina police were negligent in following up his sister's case. In reply to a Madina police spokesman's statement that the brother filed his complaint four days after the incident, the man said his sister visited the hospital and a police officer there prepared a report. The woman's brother stressed that police should have followed up the case and said they did not take any official measures. This forced him to leave his place of work in Tabuk, lodge a complaint at the police station against his brother-in-law and call for him to be held accountable, he said. The case has been referred to the Bureau for Investigation and Prosecution and the husband was summoned and later released, according to Brig. Gen. Muhsin Al-Raddadi, Madina Police spokesman.
