Wasif)RIYADH: The proceedings of 2nd International Conference on e-Learning and Distance Learning will be aired live within and outside the Kingdom, said Dr. Muhammad Bin A.A. Al-Ohali, Deputy Minister for Academic Affairs, Ministry of Higher Education. Speaking at a press conference here Monday at the premises of National Center for e-Learning and Distance Learning, the organizer of the conference, Dr. Al-Ohali said a new channel that will be launched on the occasion will broadcast the proceedings. “The new channel to be launched on the opening day of the conference on Feb. 21 will be on trial basis,” he said without elaborating. However, he said that the channel will be free on air on a horizontal frequency of 10770 and vertical 27500. “A number of Saudi channels and some international channels such as Al-Jazeera International have expressed their willingness to transmit the proceedings taken from the live coverage of the newly-launched channel,” he said. About 80 speakers from 38 countries such as the US, Britain, Australia, Japan will deliver lectures and present papers on the latest trends in e-learning and distance education. It was not clear if the proceedings of the 24 workshops planned on the sidelines of the conference will also be transmitted as part of the live coverage of the event. However, it is believed that the conference will be the first such occasion when the proceedings are telecast live.
