JEDDAH: Jeddah Police have arrested a young African for allegedly blackmailing his former girlfriend by threatening to publish her photographs unless she paid him money. The African had allegedly taken the pictures during their relationship. The woman was forced to pay him cash to prevent him carrying out his threat. The victim approached the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (the Hai'a) for help which set a trap for the blackmailer. A fake appointment was arranged for the young man to meet the woman. At the appropriate time, the Hai'a men arrested him and took him to the police station. Col. Misfer Al-Ju'aid, spokesman of the Jeddah Police, said investigations are under way at the Al-Shimalia Police Station. Al-Ju'aid added that another youth, who tried to blackmail a girl in Al-Ruwais unplanned district, is being held by the authorities.
