TURAIF: Women can register their vehicles in the names of the actual users to avoid being fined for motoring offenses they did not commit, the Kingdom's Traffic Administration has said. Director General Sulaiman Al-Ajlan told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the registration process can be completed online or at the Traffic Department free of charge, and advised the measure to avoid fines for offenses not committed by the person judged culpable. He admitted that fines had sometimes been issued to the wrong people. “We have retracted some fines that were found to have been issued by mistake,” he said. “We try and look into all complaints of any sort that we receive from the public, including unwarranted fines.” Al-Ajlan said that an order had been issued to reduce vehicle “istimara” registration fees for vehicles weighing less than three tons. “The fee has been reduced by 50 percent. Saudis are allowed to own a maximum of five vehicles,” he said. “A Royal Order has also given the motorist three options: two years registration for SR80, five years for SR200 and ten years for SR400.”
