JEDDAH: Use of sewage tankers will be completely stopped in Jeddah next year, as by the end of the Gregorian year all houses will be linked to the sanitary drainage network, revealed an official at the Ministry of Water and Electricity. The official revealed the plan at a workshop organized by the National Water Company (NWC). The event was held to look into the possibility of speeding up the execution of the ongoing water and drainage projects in the city. Renowned experts from different parts of the world attended the workshop. Within the framework of the workshop, the NWC and Mawadda Company have signed a contract for the operation, maintenance and sale of treated water from the osmosis plant at Al-Khumrah District in southern Jeddah. The contract stipulates that the Mawadda Company rehabilitates the osmosis plant and operates and maintains the plant besides selling the treated water to factories in the industrial city by extending water pipes to the industrial city. The deal, worth SR300 million, also makes it mandatory for the company to provide the NWC with 30,000 cubic meters of treated water on a daily basis.
