Strait of Hormuz/Arabian Sea/Gulf of Oman: This is a narrow bend of water separating Oman and Iran. It connects the biggest Gulf oil producers, such as Saudi Arabia, with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. At its narrowest point, the strait is only 21 miles across and consists of 2-mile (3-km) wide navigable channels for inbound and outbound shipping and a 2-mile-wide buffer zone. Hormuz is the world's most important oil chokepoint due to its daily oil flow of 17.0 million barrels in 2010. __
