Openers Phil Jaques and Simon Katich each scored centuries as Australia took total control of the third Test against West Indies on Saturday. At tea on the third day Australia, which leads the three-Test series 1-0 and has already retained the Frank Worrell Trophy, was 249 for one, an overall lead of 284. The opening partnership of 223 was Australia's 12th best in Tests. Resuming on 35 without loss, the Australia openers were given little trouble by the West Indian pace bowlers and then dealt comfortably with the spin of Chris Gayle and Sulieman Benn. At lunch Jaques was on 78 while Katich had advanced to 74 and in the afternoon session the pair continued to frustrate the home side. Jaques completed his third Test century, in 196 balls with nine fours, but after 303 minutes at the crease he finally went, caught behind for 1-8 swiping outside the off-stump to Fidel Edwards. Captain Ricky Ponting then joined left-hander Katich who went on to score his second successive Test century. At tea Katich was on 109 and Ponting had scored 16. West Indies' miserable day was compounded by the loss of its opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon who was stretchered off and taken to hospital after turning his ankle badly in the outfield. A team spokesman said the Guyanese batsman, who had just returned to the side after suffering a shoulder injury, had suffered an acute sprain of the left ankle. Australia's best ever opening partnership, 382 by Bill Lawry and Bob Simpson, came on this ground against the West Indies in 1965. Strauss recalled England batsman Andrew Strauss will play his first limited over cricket since last year's World Cup after receiving a shock recall into England's one-day squad to face New Zealand. Strauss has not played for England's limited overs side since last year's World Cup having scored just one half-century in his last 14 One-Day Internationals. He has been called in as temporary cover for Alastair Cook, who is suffering with a shoulder injury. Cook first felt his shoulder problem on the final day of the last Test at Trent Bridge and was unable to shrug it off in time to feature in Essex's Twenty20 Cup opener against Surrey at The Oval. He was also overlooked for Friday's Twenty20 International at Old Trafford and was unable to train with the rest of the England squad on Saturday prior to Sunday's start of the five
