Farsha Center, an affiliate of Sourat Obaida Governorate, have found a large quantity of medical waste dumped near Al-Farsha Valley, which is the only source of drinking water in the region. Saeed Bin Abdullah Al-Nageer, spokesman of the Directorate of Health in Asir, said all the hospitals in the region including Al-Farsha General Hospital, have contracts with companies specializing in the disposal of medical waste. He said this means that the company which has a contract with Al-Farsha hospital is responsible for dumping the medical waste. He said the waste is collected at a certain place in the hospital and handed over for safe disposal to the company by the hospital's administration. The spokesman said the directorate has so far not received any complaints from citizens in Al-Farsha. He said that the directorate has not detected any violation on the part of the company. “The directorate will start an investigation to determine the authenticity of the complaint. It will also visit the dumping site in order to resolve the issue. Salman Al-Jabri and Ali Muhammad, residents of Al-Farsha, told Okaz that they had found a large quantity of medical waste dumped in the valley which is the only source of drinking water for the center's residents. They have urged officials to promptly respond to their complaint and remove the waste which poses imminent danger to residents and their animals. They also want action taken against the company.
