JEDDAH: Light to medium rain is expected to fall within the next two days over the Makkah region, according to Dr. Mansour Al-Mazroui, Head of the Department of Meteorology and Supervisor of the Center of Excellence for Climate Change Research (CECCR) at King Abdulaziz University (KAU). He said this is the forecast from the climate models at the KAU observatory. Al-Mazroui told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the coastal areas of Makkah Region, especially in the north, might be affected by this rain. Rain will also lash different parts of Madina Region including Yanbu. He attributed this to the state of instability in the middle sector of the Western Region and the relative high humidity in the atmosphere close to the earth's surface. There will also be wind in the middle of the Red Sea, he said. Although February is considered to be the winter month with the least rainfall, especially in the Western Region of the Kingdom, current climatic turbulence means that more rain cannot be ruled out during the coming weeks of this month. The season is expected to end at the end of March, he said.
