A Saudi in his 20s escaped the sword on Thursday when the family of the dead pardoned him in return for a payment of SR5 million. The dramatic rescue came about after concerted efforts by the Reconciliation Committee in Eastern Province Emir's Office and several other tribes. The murder case is two years old when the young man from Yam tribe killed a member of Muttair tribe after heated arguments between the two, Al-Watan said on Friday. Prince Muhammad Bin Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Eastern Province and Prince Juluwi Bin Abdul Aziz Bin Musa'ed, Deputy Emir of the province, followed up on the deliberations of the reconciliation council. Various tribes headed by sheikhs and other notables arrived at the residence of the dead man's family, but it was decided to hold the reconciliation council at the residence of the dead man's brother, Saad Bin Mas'oud Bin Nuwaifi' Al-Muttairi in Al-Faisalia District in western Dammam. Through the initiatives of Dr. Ahmed Bin Rashed Al-Ossaimi, Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee in the Eastern Province Emir's Office, the victim's family received the sheikhs and groups of tribesmen. The brother of the dead man asked for payment of SR10 million in return for pardoning the killer. After a bargain, the amount was reduced to SR5 million. It was an emotional deal as tribesmen embraced each other after the conclusion of the deal. The relinquishment was then registered and was to be attested in the Dammam High Court in a couple of days. The Yam tribesmen left the place raising the white flags indicating pardon by Muttair tribe. Sources in Eastern Province prison said that the prisoner received the news on his pardon from security men in Dammam Prison. He thanked Allah and the family of the dead man. __
