JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia plans to import two million tons of wheat in 2011 and expects its import level to rise after 2016 to three million tons as it stops all local production, a source at the Grains Silos and Flour Mills Organization (GSFMO) said. “In 2011 we expect to import around two million tons... after 2016 imports will reach around three million tons per year,” a source at GSFMO said. The Kingdom produced 1.2 million tons of wheat locally in 2010, but is seen to stop by 2016 and will then start importing all of its wheat, the source said.
