Tuwaijri, Director General of the Civil Defense, said Sunday that persons who had property lost or damaged in Wednesday's floods in Jeddah would receive compensation immediately. Al-Tuwaijri said that 30 committees set up with representatives from the governorate and the Civil Defense had begun evaluating damage the day after the rains hit, a process planned to take ten days with the possibility of extension should circumstances require. “The results of the assessment process are being passed on to the evaluation committee which is formed of officials from the ministries of Interior and Finance in order for payments to be made immediately with each case taken in turn,” he said. “This is in accordance with instructions to accelerate the process to owners of property, vehicles and all other damaged possessions.” He said that a wait until the entire assessment process was concluded in order for payments to be made was “unnecessary”. “This is a change to previous procedures in order to speed up the payment of compensation into the bank accounts of eligible people and help ease their suffering,” he said.
