KHOBAR: Deals to build Saudi Aramco's Wasit gas plant, the Kingdom's largest, are worth $2.5 billion, industry sources said. Aramco last week selected South Korean companies to build Wasit, which has a gas processing capacity of 2.5 billion cubic feet per day (cfd). It did not give a value for the deals. When completed in 2014, the plant will process gas from the offshore non-associated sour gas fields, Arabiyah and Hasbah. “On average, the final contract prices are 30 percent or more below the original budget,” said an industry source who declined to be identified. Sources said the contract for the inlet and gas facilities was around $1 billion while the one for sulfur recovery units (SRU) and utilities was $600 million. The contract for the natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionation units was around $300 million. All three contracts have been awarded to South Korea's SK Engineering and Construction. Samsung Engineering's deal was worth around $600 million. It involves building four 150 megawatt (MW) cogeneration units. The Wasit gas program is split into onshore and offshore construction packages which sources said had an original estimated cost of between $6
