MADINA: An Indonesian maid who jumped from the building where she lives with her employers has accused her sponsor's wife, of burning her and other forms of physical abuse after police were called by doctors to Al-Ansar Hospital in Madina. The woman was taken in “serious condition” by three males to the hospital's emergency department several days ago, and doctors were informed that she had jumped from the top of a building. An examination revealed injuries thought to be unrelated to the fall and requiring police to be informed. A medical source at the hospital said that the woman exhibited burn marks on her back and other parts of her body, and had open wounds on her face and head. “An x-ray revealed broken ribs,” the source said. “She is currently in an unstable condition and her recovery time will only be established at a later date.” The woman reportedly told investigators that her sponsor's wife, who is a professor at Taiba University, “tortured and burned” her. The wife has been questioned by police and denies all accusations, however, while her father told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the maid suffered from “mental disturbances”. He said she had been examined on previous occasions by four doctors at different hospitals. “We have their reports stating her mental condition,” he said. “She had tried to jump several times from the same building.” A representative from the National Society of Human Rights in Madina said the organization had spoken on Thursday to the Indonesian woman at King Fahd Hospital, to which she was transferred from Al-Ansar. “We need to hear the statements of the accused party and investigate the claims,” he said. “We try to gather all information from both sides impartially before presenting a detailed report to the supervisor general at the Madina office, who then looks into each case and takes the necessary action.”
