AL KHOBAR: Students of three Philippines schools in Eastern Province will compete this Friday in the annual chess competition organized by the Beta Sigma Fraternity in cooperation with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Eastern Region of the Philippine Embassy. The Philippine International School in Al–Khobar (IPSA), Al–Andalus International School Al Khobar, and Al– Majeed International School Dammam are fielding their top chess players to the competition, which will be held at the Conference Hall of Mohamed Al–Dossary Hospital. Chess is one of the favorite sports of Filipino students in Saudi Arabia, and Beta Sigma Fraternity is focusing its support programs to this sport by holding the competition every year, according Philippine labor attaché David Des T. Dicang. The competition is open to all grade levels of students, from elementary high schools. All the participating schools have their own chess club that hone students in chess. The winners in last year's competition were spread in the three schools. Special prizes, gifts and trophies will be given at the end of the competition as one way of encouraging wider student participation in the game of chess, according to organizers.
