PARK City, Utah: The story of a young couple who decide to adopt a cat to enliven their monotonous lives, but then split up as a result, is beguiling audiences at the Sundance Film festival. But the movie is far from a simple tale of a romantic break-up; US actress and filmmaker Miranda July sees “The Future” as a poetic and absurdist exploration of living in the present, rather than an imagined future. After her debut “Me and You and Everyone We Know” won a special jury prize at Sundance in 2005 and a Golden Camera in Cannes, the new film was eagerly awaited at this year's festival, which runs until Jan. 30. The movie tells the story of a couple in their 30s, who hit upon the idea of adopting a cat to break the monotony of a life in a small Los Angeles apartment – and the tedium of jobs they hate.
