JEDDAH: King Fahd Hospital here held an open day Wednesday to inform and educate staff about plans to seek an international accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI), a body based in the United States. Those present at the event included Dr. Abdul Latif Yahya Khoja, the director of the hospital. The hospital is seeking to ensure its services and standards are world class. Khoja said the “mission is to provide unique specialized health care to our patients through safe health practices”. He said King Fahd Hospital is one of nine Ministry of Health facilities seeking the accreditation. Dr. Amal Hassan Sultan, Molecular Biology consultant at King Fahd Hospital and team leader, said the open day was part of its plan to “improve health services for citizens and residents at international standards”. Dr. Majda Shagdar, director of quality management, said King Fahd Hospital has won a local award for its services. She said there are 14 teams working on the initiative. She said the JCI has strict criteria related to patient safety and confidentiality. It is also concerned about mistakes and communication between various hospital departments.
