NEW DELHI: India's embattled prime minister shuffled his Cabinet Wednesday, juggling portfolios and replacing the sports minister. While some had speculated that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would use the shake-up to restore confidence in a government rocked by a string of scandals, the changes were seen as relatively minor. M.S. Gill was moved from the sports ministry to the statistics ministry, while Kapil Sibal remained in charge of the telecommunications ministry that he has led since his predecessor, Andimuthu Raja, resigned in November. Praful Patel was made a full Cabinet minister, as were Sriprakash Jaiswal and Salman Khurshid, boosting the number of Cabinet ministers to 36. Several junior ministers were also given small promotions.
