TAIF: The Saudi Electricity Company has admitted that some employees have tampered with meter readings, resulting in some consumers being overcharged. The suspects are now under investigation. An informed source at the company told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that some subscribers had lodged complaints with the company that they were overcharged. The investigations carried out by the company proved this was the case, said the source. He said the negligent employees used to register random figures on power consumption without reading the subscribers' meters. The negligent employees now face penalties ranging from a warning, a cut in salary, or transfer to other sections. The source agreed that the affected subscribers have the right to be refunded the extra money they were charged and said the company wanted to settle the matter in a manner that satisfies them. He said some subscribers had to suffer from many inconveniences such as the disconnection of power at critical hours, and deserve suitable compensation.
