JEDDAH: A medical symposium Thursday to discuss developments in ophthalmology and eye surgery will include lectures from 10 professors from several US universities who specialize in eye diseases. The symposium coincides with the opening of the Nano Unit at King Fahd Center for Medical Research at King Abdulaziz University, which will enrich scientific research and facilitate the exchange of expertise between Saudi and American universities, officials said. The event is organized by the university's Faculty of Medicine in cooperation with the Saudi Ophthalmological Society and the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology. The symposium will discuss genes that cause eye diseases and their treatment, in addition to nanotechnology and its uses in diagnosing and treating eye diseases, said Osama Badeeb, glaucoma consultant at the University's hospital and chairman of the committee that organized the symposium.
