JEDDAH: Zaldy Bacero and Cheryl Tibay displayed brilliant form during the two-leg finals to clinch the championship with Abdulfatta Al-Mogawan and Fuly Primo finishing second in the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling group's monthly championships for January at the Bowling City here. Topping elimination with 868 from games of 226, 226, 234 and 182, Bacero, who looked down on second finisher Ric Reformado with 856, including remarkable ender of 247, was joined by Rene Punzalan, Mogawan and Sol Cuenca on the waiting status on classes B, C and D respectively. Punzalan Mogawan and Cuenca turned out waiting bowlers with their completion of 873, 852 and 840. They forced top pursuers Johnny Macalintal, Robert Stone and Tito Cruz to the playoff with their frame-short scores of 849, 782 and 835 in that order. Playoff then was mastered by Bobby Baraquel (224), Jun Estefano (242), Stone (220) and Cruz (210). Baraquel beat Oca Bernabe, Reformado and Sardi?a on class A. Estefano overpowered Macalintal, Willie Ansis and Ferdie Coloma on B. Stone bowled best among Nards Hassan, Rey Abaygar and Serge Rivera on C. Cruz bested Edward Botardo, Conrad Baltazar and Cuenca on D. On the 2-game class championship, Bacero beat Baraquel (430-398) on A, Mogawan dominated Stone at 406-347 on C, Cuenca outlasted Cruz at 430-403 on D. Estefano and Punzalan glamorized class B match with 407-all from symmetrical sets (210-197) and (197-210) forcing them into 2-frame roll off decision. Such scenario was caused by a crucial No. 6-pin missed by Punzalan that made Estefano the class B champion when he bowled two frames better than the earlier. Bacero then dominated game 1 of the two-game finals at 227 with Cuenca, Mogawan and Estefano contending with 197, 195 and 186. Such 30-pin lead over the nearest threat gave Bacero a pressure free bowling to rally with 244 and walk home as FEDBG January champion on total score of 471. Mogawan placed first runner-up with 429, followed by Estefano (408) and Cuenca (378). Lady bowlers also exhibited equally exciting battles with Primo upsetting Tibay for the waiting-bowler level at 773-772 on AB group, while Eloisa Payongayong beat Ester Santoc at 840-793 on group CD. Startling entry to the playoff pinnacle was made by Lourdes Punzalan when she surprised everyone with excellent upsurge of 245, while Jessica Fuentes dislodged Alona Antinero at 779-757 on a 213 pursue.
