JEDDAH: The Traffic Department and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs are working to introduce penalties for construction companies that fail to heed safety measures at work sites. The Traffic Department has reportedly asked the ministry to inform its contractors of requirements for fencing off sites and erecting warning signs to alert motorists and pedestrians, as well as measures to ensure traffic flow is smooth in construction work zones. Sources told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the ministry has proposed that any contractors failing to meet requirements be denied any future contracts and also have their licenses to operate removed should they repeat the offense.
