JEDDAH: Hani Abu Ras, Mayor of Jeddah, has said that all road and bridge projects in Jeddah will be finished by the end of 2012. Speaking at the opening of the north-south underpass at the junction of Prince Majed Road and Al-Rodha Road Thursday, Abu Ras said that all levels involved in road works had been warned about failures to meet deadlines. “No extensions to deadlines will be given to companies entrusted with projects,” Abu Ras said. “The mayoralty is well aware of the traffic problems faced by the public, and while most works have been finished, efforts are being made to ensure that remaining work is completed as quickly as possible.” Work on the triple-lane dual-carriageway underpass which opened Thursday began in 2006 at a cost of SR9.4 million. With a length of 675 meters, the completion of the underpass was delayed due to the concrete rock structure at the airplane roundabout which formed a base for the aircraft that once stood as a symbol at the site.
