CAIRO: Saleh Kamil, Chairman of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has said that the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is working to support member states' economies, with a special interest in the African continent to “push its wheel of economy forward”. Kamil said that the OIC had particular interest in infrastructure and other projects, citing road construction works linking various member countries and the rail link between Sudan and Dakar. The railway consists of two main lines crossing the continent, from the east to the west, with a north-south link in other member states to ease the transport of passengers and goods across the coastal belt. “The OIC is continuously working to encourage the private sector to invest in road and infrastructure construction to form a link between the people and strengthen trade, social and cultural relations between them,” Kamil said. “The OIC's aim to further cooperation and enlist economists is one of the aims of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is an organization that has been borne out of the OIC, and practices within the framework of the development of the economies of the Islamic countries through a number of initiatives and projects already under way or under study.”
