JEDDAH: The Jeddah Mayoralty destroyed 280 kilograms of rotten fish at the Central Fish Market last month. The General Administration of Abattoirs and Livestock Market at the mayoralty, said the administration's field inspectors had inspected 102 stalls for fresh and frozen fish, a number of restaurants serving fish dishes, 288 fish refrigeration trucks, 277 small refrigeration trucks and 522 pickups. He said the inspectors issued 15 violation slips and made 10 shops selling fish, sign undertakings not to repeat offenses. They also fined owners of five stalls for failing to abide by required hygiene standards. A source at the administration said the field inspectors had around-the-clock tours of all the shops and groceries selling foodstuff to ensure that all products were safe for consumption.
