percent price rise in motor engine oil is due to new technology and 2011 car models which have brought an increase in motor oil consumption. Consumers, on the other hand, blame a lack of monitoring on motor oil retail outlets where the price of one container has risen to SR17, although one store owner said the rise was primarily due to an increase in factory production cost and a rise in consumption. A survey of the motor oil sector estimates the annual increase in motor oil at between five and eight percent, and consumers have called on the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Consumer Protection Society to take action to curb the rises and provide an index and price list as well as introduce strict penalties on offenders who cause price rises.
