KHOBAR: Flying rock fragments from blasts at a construction site for the new Al-Khobar Tunnel on the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' Road – formerly Dhahran Road – have caused an estimated SR200,000 in damage to a number of shops and cars in the area. Engineer Osama Mus'ad, Director of the project, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the company which carried out the blasts is a specialized outfit licensed by the security authorities. It carries out blasts every week. However, during the blasts in question, some rock fragments shot out from the site, according to security authorities. However, the fragments only fell 50 meters away from the blast site, said Mus'ad. He said the company would compensate the shop owners in terms of the contracts signed with them in this regard. Osama Ahmad, manager of one of the damaged showrooms, said the losses incurred by his showroom are estimated at SR100,000. He said 10 glass facades of the showroom were smashed, in addition to a new car parked behind the showroom. He said the rock fragments flew a distance of more than 500 meters, damaging cars parked on the street.
