Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) 2010.SE said on Tuesday its subsidiary Ar-Razi had begun methanol production at plant with a capacity of a 1.7 million tons per year. “The Ar-Razi 5 project of the Ar-Razi Saudi Methanol Company - a SABIC subsidiary- entered production in the Jubail industrial zone on May 1,” said a statement on the bourse website. “The four other plants produce more than 3 million metric tons a year, and the Ar-Razi 5 methanol project produces 1.7 metric tons a year, adding 1,500 tons a day to total capacity.” It cited a SABIC official as saying demand for methanol was rising sharply.
