JEDDAH: Appeals for protection from violence, issues pertaining to nationality, rights of prisoners and the right to work were among the 536 complaints received last year by the women's branch of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Makkah Province. A total of 288 cases were solved, 176 were referred to relevant government agencies and 72 are still being processed, an HRC report showed. The commission also provided a legal counseling service to 100 persons with complaints. The report showed the branch has formed six specialized committees for studies and research, follow-up of cases, activities, reconciliation, legal affairs and check-up visits. The report showed the branch conducted visits to Jeddah's Psychiatric Hospital and Makkah's orphanage and Girls' Care House, in addition to the Women's Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center, the Social Care House for the Elderly in Taif, Annour Institute for the Blind in Jeddah, Family Protection Society in Makkah, Women's Division at Briman Prison, Expatriates Administration in Jeddah, Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for Women in Jeddah, Women's Prison in Yanbu, Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center in Makkah, Abu Oraish Prison's Women's Division, Jizan's General Hospital and Psychiatric Hospital, and King Fahd Hospital in Madina.
