Rehaili, a professor at the Islamic University in Madina, has warned students about engaging themselves in issues that are resolved by the ruler. Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, Dr. Al-Rehaili urged students to avoid plunging into controversial issues that lead to sedition, especially the purely jurisprudential issues such as Jihad. He also stressed the importance of students being tolerant and kind when they approach people to advise them, especially the advocates of deviant thoughts. Dr. Al-Rehaili stressed the importance of students advocating tolerance in all their actions and deeds. He said the Islamic Ummah has suffered a lot from judgments that brand Muslims as infidels and accuse them of blasphemy and pointed out that most people who utter those judgments have ulterior motives. Dr. Al-Rehaili also criticized knowledge-seeking students who abandon those who disagree with them, which he said leads to alienation and isolation. He called on students to use sound logic to convince those with whom they disagree.
