MADINA: Sources have said that the mother of the 16-year-old girl whose father falsely reported her as abducted had accepted a dowry for her daughter from a Burmese man who the father told police was responsible for the kidnap. The sources said that the Burmese man, who is a relation of the family, had gone from where he lived in Makkah to the family's home in Madina where he met the girl's father outside the house. The girl's mother then took him inside and he presented the dowry, saying the wedding celebration would take place in Makkah. The girl was then allowed to go with him to Makkah where they signed the official marriage contract. The girl had called police Sunday to say that she had legally married the man and was returning to Madina to deal with the affair. She reportedly described her father's story as a “figment of his imagination in an attempt to foil the marriage”. The father initially claimed that his daughter had been abducted from her home by four Burmese men after tying up his wife in the bathroom. “I wasn't at home at the time, and the children answered a knock at the door and heard a man saying he had come to deliver some clothes,” he said. “When they opened it, four men rushed in, tied up my wife and locked the children in a room.” He said she was then forced into a car and taken away before he returned home and contacted police. Relatives from both families are currently in Madina trying to find an amicable solution to the situation.
