DAMMAM: Several citizens have lodged complaints with the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) against car insurance companies for their not paying claims. The claimants lodged these complaints while pursuing court cases against the companies, some of which have gone bankrupt and shut down, an NSHR official said. They said they had insurance and were surprised by claims made against them by third parties for damage sustained in traffic accidents. The claimants said they approached the third parties and were surprised to learn that many companies were bankrupt and no longer operating so they could not fulfill their financial obligations. This happened at a time when, to the best of the claimants' knowledge, their insurance policies were still valid. They approached the National Society for Human Rights to help them retain their rights from these companies, having insured their cars with officially licensed companies. A source at the NSHR said the group is looking into the complaints to help the people as much as it can. In a related development, Dr. Muhammad Al-Isa, Minister of Justice, said Sunday that his organization is prepared to highlight its progress in the area of human rights, on the grounds the human rights are of high justice value decreed by the Islamic Shariah. He made the comment while receiving a delegation from the UN's High Commission for Human Rights, during which he explained the principles of human rights in Shariah.
