MAKKAH: Police say they have referred two municipal officials to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution in Makkah after they allegedly detained and illegally took money from expatriate fruit sellers in Makkah in return for their release. The municipal inspectors using their power confiscated SR850 from the illegal Asian fruit sellers after briefly detaining them in a Makkah fruit and vegetable market, said Col. Abdul Mohsin Al-Mayman, spokesman of the Makkah Police Department. The illegal foreigners reported the incident to the police who rounded up the municipal inspectors on duty on the day of the incident for identification at the Ajyad Police Station in Makkah. The victims identified the inspectors who admitted the offense. The BIP will release results when the investigation is finished.
