JEDDAH: The General Presidency of Meteorology and Environmental Protection has forecast that sandstorms, lightning, strong winds and a drop in temperature are likely for various parts of the Kingdom over the period Dec. 29 to Jan. 2 The report said a sequence of passing low-pressure systems will affect the Kingdom's atmosphere. The report added that the low-pressure movement, north of the Red Sea, will start next Wednesday and produce a warm air-mass. The resulting active winds could stir up dust, especially in the north and west of the Kingdom. The Presidency expects precipitation and lightning starting Wednesday until Saturday morning in the regions of Tabuk, Hail, Madina, Makkah, and especially the coastal areas of these regions. Northern areas of the Kingdom could also be in store for some changes in the weather. The wind is expected to shift direction to west-northwest and will gain speed. There will be reduced visibility in the north, northern parts of the west, and the middle of the Kin gdom, accompanied by a drop in temperatures. The Presidency called on beach-goers and highway travelers to take appropriate precautions to deal with such weather fluctuations. Any changes will be reported to the public when needed.
