MADINA: Police in Madina are searching for vandals who have smashed Saher speed cameras at various sites in Madina over the past five days, the latest incidents occurring on Friday on King Abdul Aziz Street. Two persons reportedly descended from their vehicle and broke the equipment before leaving the scene. An official tasked with monitoring Saher equipment and facilities informed police in the district. The same day one person threw sewage over a camera while driving past at high speed. He then repeated the act before being caught and taken into custody. A third incident involved a motorist who had been speeding and subsequently rammed a camera unit with is car, causing his own windscreen to break. Police are still trying to locate him. Saher traffic cameras have been subject to a number of acts of vandalism in Madina. Last Thursday, petrol was poured on a unit and set on fire before the unknown offenders fled. That incident led Madina Traffic Police to reaffirm its commitment to the Saher system “for the public good”.
