JEDDAH: The National Commercial Bank (NCB) recently announced the launch of an internal awareness campaign under the title “Think Planet” across its branches and buildings in the Kingdom. The environmental initiative aims to promote a conserving culture amongst all NCB employees by raising awareness of the impact of daily activities on the natural resources of the planet and inducing behavior change within work groups as well as in homes. The initiative also seeks to drive collective efforts in minimizing the environmental costs of the bank's operations by providing advice and instructions for individual participation in reducing consumption of water, power and paper. NCB Chief Executive Officer Abdul Kareem Abu Alnasr said “Think Planet campaign stems from the sustainability and business excellence framework that the Bank adopted in the past years, and which revolves around people, planet, profit. The bank has invested considerable time and effort in improving sustainability performance, but individuals remain the most critical factor in realizing our sustainability goals.” “The bank's commitment to sustainability in everything we do and all aspects possible comes from a genuine belief that our success and future growth are in direct relation with the interests and wellbeing of all our stakeholders - our people, our shareholders, our customers, our environment, our business partners and our community.” NCB was the first company in Saudi Arabia to comply with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines and the first financial institution in the Middle East to issue an internationally accredited sustainability report. Over the past two years, NCB has worked on reducing its environmental costs by installing water and power saving technologies, introducing recycling procedures and setting measures to drive sustainable improvements.
