RIYADH: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has launched an initiative to promote a digital culture in the country. The aim is to increase awareness of the importance of communication and information technology and bridge the digital divide. The initiative, carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, universities and relevant government agencies, involves lectures at universities and secondary schools in all of the country's 13 regions during the current academic year. Some of the lectures will be open to the public. One of the goals of the initiative, which is part of the ministry's National Plan for Communication and Information Technology, is to highlight the importance of this sector among all age groups, in particular the youth. In Riyadh, 34 lectures will be convened at government and private secondary schools while four will be for students at universities and government colleges. One lecture will be open to the public. The lectures will introduce communication and information technology, issues related to privacy, laws, electronic transactions, intellectual rights and cybercrime.
