The Royal College of Pathologists of America has recently praised departments of pathology and laboratory medicine in King Abdul Aziz Medical City in Jeddah (KAMC). The departments were accorded an “Excellent” grade. The recognition accredited KAMC in 26 medical specialties of medical laboratory and pathology. “These fields include hematology, blood bank and immunity, microbiology, biochemistry, parasites, fungi, hormones, viruses, pathological anatomy, cell science and molecular genetic diagnosis,” Abdul-Rahman Al-Maghrabi, KAMC's director of media affairs, told Saudi Gazette. He added that KAMC laboratory is one of the 6,000 recognized laboratories worldwide that the American college accredits. According to Maghrabi, the recognition mainly has matched more than 3,200 medical standards of quality performance and excellence established by the college. He also added that the laboratory department holds the recognition of the British Royal College of Pathology in providing training programs for postgraduate pathology studies that qualify applicants for a fellowship of the British Royal College of Pathology. Chief Executive Officer of the National Guard Health Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, said the government has directed health officials to surmount all obstacles standing in the way of health services in all areas. __
