RIYADH: Prince Muqrin Bin Abdul Aziz, chairman of the General Intelligence Directorate, said Tuesday that launching a special security unit within the organization is a move to implement the will of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Crown Prince Sultan. Prince Muqrin emphasized that there is strong cooperation between the Interior Ministry and his agency, which work together for the common goal of preserving the country's security. “We are realizing the desire of our leadership that we should act professionally and raise our level of preparedness to fight the international menace of terrorism,” Prince Muqrin said during a ceremony in Riyadh to launch the special unit, which included a mock terrorism operation he observed. “This menace has no borders and we must have the professional skills to measure up to this global challenge. Precise, pinpointed operational intelligence is essential to achieve victory over the terrorists.” Prince Muqrin praised the organization's staff members, who have received highly professional training to attack terrorism head-on with resoluteness, dedication and perseverance and annihilate it. The challenge is substantial because “terrorism has become a phenomenon with no clear goals,” he said. As part of working against that threat, the intelligence service does whatever it can to support the Ministry of Interior and its leader, he said. “I consider myself a servant to Prince Naif [the Interior Minister],” he said. “Our brothers in Intelligence are indivisible from the Ministry of Interior. We are its right arm and we are ready whenever we are needed. Whenever we have information, we report it to them immediately.”
