JEDDAH: The Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Makkah has resolved 279 out of 504 cases brought to it by the public. At present, 137 complaints are in the process of being dealt with, while 88 are under investigation. The greatest area of complaint concerned labor rights and compliance with laws and regulations, registering 119 complaints. Other issues concerned protection from abuse of authority, prisoner and detainee rights, and family issues. Ibrahim Al-Nahyani of the HRC in Makkah said that greater awareness of human rights as well as government cooperation with the commission would help reduce the number of individual complaints. “There is palpable cooperation occurring at the moment which has led to a lot of cases being resolved,” he said.
