JEDDAH: The Jeddah Mayoralty has rejected claims from Quwaizah and Al-Mosa'ad residents that rising groundwater in their neighborhoods is mixed with sewage water. In a statement released Sunday, the mayoralty said that all water drained by their water tankers from the areas is pure ground water. The tankers are draining the water and dumping it in a flood canal in the district. The mayoralty said officials from Om Al-Sallam are supervising the tankers. The statement assured residents that the mayoralty is working with the National Water Company (NWC) to provide 67 tankers to be used by officials who will supervise the project in east Jeddah. The residents of the two areas had previously said that they had to create special canals in their districts to divert the underground water away from their houses. Moreover, they accused the mayoralty of doing nothing to help them deal with the increasing amount of sewage leaking into their homes and schools from overflowing pipes.
