DAMMAM: Police arrested a number of people Sunday under charges of stealing standby-power batteries for a telecommunication company's towers in northern Dammam. Police investigated a report from a 32-year-old Saudi national who said the towers had been theft targets and authorities uncovered detailed information about the suspects, arrested them and referred them for further investigation, officials said. Lt. Col. Ziyad Al-Riqaiti, spokesman for the Eastern Province Police, said the main suspects are two Asian expatriates who have been handed over to Northern Dammam Police Station. Once the investigations are completed, the suspects will be referred to the relevant authorities, he added. In a related development, security authorities in Al-Ahsa said they have arrested two citizens in their 20s for stealing electricity cable in Al-Rashidiah District, in Dammam Governorate. Lt. Col. Al-Riqaiti said authorities took the suspects into custody and handed them over to Al-Mubarraz Police Station, where they are being held pending investigations.
