RIYADH: A huge fire tore through a Riyadh Western-style compound in the Khaleej District Sunday night, eyewitnesses said. Firefighters battled to enter the heavily secured, barricaded compound, which helped the fire spread to larger portions of the Seder Village compound, which is located on Salman Al-Farsy Street, next to the Khaleej Industrial Zone, officials said. Riyadh Civil Defense and Red Crescent rescue teams rushed to the scene, but they struggled to get through the barricaded gates and had to go through back-entry gates that had been locked for years, according to the eyewitnesses. Flames and smoke billowed over the compound when the rescue teams arrived and were visible from across the city, they added. No casualties were reported till the filing of this report. The compound is a collection of small wooden residential units that are surrounded by trees.
