NYON, Switzerland: Defending champion Inter Milan will face Bayern Munich in a rerun of last season's Champions League final after being drawn together Friday in the first knockout round. Inter beat Bayern 2-0 in Madrid in May to become European champion for the first time since 1965, but neither side has so far replicated last season's good form. Inter is seventh in the Italian League and only advanced as runner-up in the group stage, while Bayern topped a relatively weak group but is languishing in a distant sixth place in Germany. Barcelona will meet Arsenal, which it beat in the 2006 final and, with four goals by Lionel Messi, outclassed the London club 6-3 on aggregate in last season's quarterfinals, while Real Madrid is up against Lyon – the side that knocked it out at the same stage last season. Last year's win was Lyon's third straight at home against Madrid in the Champions League, each time without conceding a goal. Seven-time European champion AC Milan will play Tottenham, which won its group ahead of Inter in its first season in the Champions League. Manchester United was drawn against Marseille, and Chelsea will meet FC Copenhagen. Shakhtar Donetsk, which won the second-tier UEFA Cup in 2009, is up against Roma, while Valencia plays Schalke. “They're maybe the biggest club in Europe along with Real Madrid, historically speaking,” Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier said of United. “But I think the English will suit Marseille better than Barcelona's short passing game would. The first leg matches are scheduled for Feb. 15, with the return games the following month. Sevilla to face Porto Two-time winner Sevilla will play Iberian rival FC Porto in a standout match in the first knockout round of the Europa League. Porto is the runaway leader of the Portuguese league and breezed through its group by winning five and drawing one of its six matches. Sevilla, which won Europe's second-tier competition in 2006 and ‘07 when it was called the UEFA Cup, edged into the last 32 courtesy of a draw against Borussia Dortmund in its final group game and is in disarray in the Spanish league, losing its last four matches. In another match between two former winners, Anderlecht will meet Dutch giant Ajax, which dropped into the competition after finishing third in its Champions League group. Villarreal, which is third in the Spanish league, will take on Napoli, the only Italian team left in the competition, and five-time European champion Liverpool was drawn against Sparta Prague in the last 32. Greek side Aris' prize for helping eliminate defending champion Atletico Madrid in the group stage is a match against big-spending English club Manchester City. PSV Eindhoven, which won the European Cup in 1988, was paired with French side Lille. The first of the two-legged matches are scheduled for Feb. 17 and 24.
