MADINA: Three Mayor's Office officials who were held over an altercation with operators of the Saher traffic camera system in Madina were released by police in Al-Khalidiya Thursday. The altercation occurred after the mayoralty decided to remove Saher cameras from streets and roundabouts because of unpaid fees, while Saher operators tried to physically prevent them. The mayoralty initially said that the Saher system was a government project operated by an investor and that agreed fees for installing the cameras had not been paid, but later retracted its demands following intervention from the Emir's Office. The head of Madina's Traffic Department, Siraj Kamal, said that Saher was “not an investment project” and assured that “a permanent solution is on the way”.
